It is very easy to walk around most of Italy’s cities and towns.
If you have the time to walk, which I recommend you do, you will see and experience so much more than being on transport.
Always remember to have a local map on you and carry with you the address of where you are staying. It is reassurance and gives you peace of mind. It is not hard to get lost if you are tired and in a new place.
It is easy to be tempted by Italy’s beautiful foods so walking will take away the guilt of enjoying a gelato or pizza or whatever takes your fancy.
I enjoy people watching when I stop for a coffee or something to eat.
There are a few tips about eating inside or outside – particularly in the big cities. I will cover these another time.
Could not agree more Lyn! You also experience the sounds and smells of Italy when you walk. Getting lost is all part of the fun…
Thanx Mary, I always appreciate your feed back. I accidently published this post (hit the wrong button) as I was only working on it so I have just done some very speedy repair work. It looks a bit better Lyn
If you don’t like walking, then you don’t get to see much of Italy. Good pair do shoes is a must!! I love your pictures! Linda
Hi Linda, yes I walk every single day when I am in Italy and I love it. Lyn
I meant “good pair OF shoes…”. :-)
I knew that L
Hi Lyn,
I am new to your blog. My husband and I are going to be in Italy from Feb27/13-May27/13 staying in Lanciana. We are planning on using the apt. as a base and making 3 or 4 day trips to various cities and regions using public transport. So I am finding your blog helpful and encouraging. Thanks
Bev
Hi Bev, thank you for that. I love sharing my experiences. My first 2 trips to Italy were organised but now I do my own thing and each time very different. I have learnt from my trips how easy and how affordable it can be. Lyn
I agree totally, you can only get the real feel of any Italian town by ambling around as there is something new to see around every corner, a statue here a fresco there and food, vino and coffee everywhere it’s the only way to go. Love this post
Hi Donna, thanx for your comment, and yes most definitely it is the only way to get a real feel of the country. L
good tip about taking the name of where you are staying, all looks just beautiful
Yes, I learned that tip the hard way L
Walking is definitely the best way to see Italy. I just put on my Merrells and go…..I am on my fourth pair.
Hi Debra, walking is good anywhere but we never seem to make the effort and when i walk in Italy I realise just how good it is, not just for what you see but also how you feel L
Hi Lyn
I have been following your blog from my travels in Africa. I think the photographs are just stunning. I really want to go to Italy now. Talk to you soon.
Carmel
Thanx Carmel, great to hear from you. So pleased that you like the photos. Yes, I want to return to Italy. See you soon Lyn
Your blog about travel in Italy is splendid. I love Italy culture, Italian food, tradition etc. Last summer I have visited Italy and I have enjoyed this vacation so much. We are planning to go Italy next vacation. Hope that it would be another wonderful journey. speak

Hi Lyn
How are you? Hope your pain is diminishing. I was thinking that maybe you should come down to Nerang to see the Medicine Woman. Gail and Dawn went to see her two weeks ago for personal reasons and to get unstuck and they are both excited and moving onto new directions. Remember I went to her when I couldn’t sell the land and had a buyer within 3 weeks and Danielle went when she was doing all that travelling in her job up and back to Brisbane and ended up in Western Australia.
Work at Boongala only has 4 weeks to go on their contract. Don’t know how they will finish within that time as they are still working out how I can get into my carport. But after finishing landscaping etc in the later part of the year I will be ready to work on the next part of my life (it has to include fun and not so much hard work) – I will go to her within the next few weeks as I want a couple of ideas and some “fears” or “blocks” removed.
Next week I am training all week at Cleveland so have booked into a motel there so I don’t have to travel through the traffic every day. But I am not training Thursday as have to go to John Flynn Hospital for my birthday to get tests on the tingling feet.
Think about the medicine woman as I will probably go first week of June.
Lots of love to you and also Buddy.

Hi Lyn
I never heard back from that girl re membership of WWWWW. I will check my visa card later this afternoon just to make sure it hasn’t been taken out. If not I will go online again and see if I can pay.
Still want to come on 8th June so what do I have to do. I will ask my two sisters when I see them next if they also want to come.
