This is where I will be in a few weeks time. Lyn

Bagni di Lucca and its surrounds is one of my favorite areas in Tuscany. Here the terrain is full of impossibly picturesque hilltop towns, wild valleys and most importantly top quality local produce.

Bagni di Lucca is a tiny spa town nestled in the Serchio Valley, approximately 25 kilometres from Lucca. The town has been famed since its Roman and Etruscan days for its thermal springs and during the French occupation became the summer residence of the court of Napoleon and his sister Elisa Baciocchi.

My favourite coffee spot in the area is Il Monaco Pasticceria in pretty Ponte a Serraglio, just down the road from the main town – La Villa. They may not speak much English here but they make a mean coffee. If it is after midday.order an espresso rather than a cappuccino (apparently it’s not Italian etiquette to order a cappuccino after 12pm). For under two…

In Queensland we have a favourite expression, Queensland; Beautiful One Day Perfect The Next

I experienced that expression when I visited Redcliffe this week.  I had not been to Redcliffe for many years so I was delighted to see just how lovely it is now.

DSCF4490 DSCF4488

Redcliffe is a residential suburb of the  Moreton Bay Region  approximately 28 kilometres (17 mi) north-north-east of  Brisbane.  It is an easy half hour drive on very good highway.

DSCF4514

Redcliffe sits on Moreton Bay overlooking 2 large sand islands, Moreton and Stradbroke Islands.  I learned while I was there that Redcliffe was Queensland’s first colony in 1824.

DSCF4515

In 1958, The Gibb family from Manchester, England emigrated to this area and called Redcliffe home.  Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb went on to form the highly successful music group, The Bee Gees.

DSCF4506

There is a bronze statue of the Bee Gees from when they were boys growing up in Redcliffe. The statue marks the start of Bee Gees Way, a walkway dotted with photos, anecdotes and other items donated by Barry Gibb. It was opened by Barry on 14 February 2013

There is just so much on offer in the lovely area.  Some of the most popular attractions include, a visit to The Bee Gees way, whale watching, the Redcliffe museum or take a boat out to Moreton Island.

Pack your picnic for a free, full & fun day or you could always pop up to street level to find a huge array of takeaway or dine in cafes and restaurants.

DSCF4498 DSCF4489

All the amenities are provided including: toilet blocks with showers, BBQ’s, ample picnic tables & fresh water taps. Life Guard protected swimming in a huge picturesque salt water pool plus heaps of shady spots. There is a large kids playground and large open grassy spans to run or play… cricket, kick the footy or just sit on the water’s edge, wet a line or watch the world go by.

DSCF4503 DSCF4501

We visited a gorgeous new complex called Mon Komo with is spectacular views and then dined in their tavern downstairs.

At the end of our day we discovered a lovely restaurant up the road at Scarborough, called the Sugar Deli. It looked like we had arrived at the house of the “Mad Hatter”, and then walked in to Wonderland and then we enjoyed our coffee in the Queen of Hearts room.

While I was up on the Sunshine Coast, I visited the Noosa Farmers markets for the first time and I was most impressed.

DSCF4436

They certainly had plenty of variety on offer. There was a terrific range of food fresh from farmers or makers (cheese, deli goods etc).  Including fruits, vegetables, breads, yoghurt, meats, goat’s milk, nuts, flowers, coffee, baked goods, Asian street food, gourmet meats, cheese, olives, and much more. They were reasonably priced for such high quality produce and there were tastings at various stalls.

Noosa Markets

The produce was so fresh and the meat and seafood the best quality.

DSCF4437

The atmosphere is very much alive and so friendly. I really enjoyed wandering around and sampling the food on offer. I will certainly visit again.

DSCF4439

Not only was food there, there was entertainment as well. A great place to visit and stock up on healthy foods…. it is a real foodies haven.

Noosa Farmers Market is fantastic if you love food and cooking. So much variety, so many taste sensations, so easy to meander from stall to stall and there are no cheap trinket stalls, just good home-grown produce.

DSCF4447

These markets are full of tasty treats, and is held every Sunday morning from 7 to 12, at the Football Ground in Weyba Road

I really enjoyed these markets, definitely a community feel here. They are smaller than many farmers markets that I have been to so it doesn’t take you all day to get around them. So fresh it just inspires you to be healthy.

I had the pleasure of meeting a very interesting guy who is passionate about Raw Food. He conducts “raw food cooking classes” on the coast which apparently are very good and the food is divine. Scott walks his talk and you can see it. He just looks fantastic. I learned so much from our short talk. He is a wealth of information. You may like to take a look at his website. www.scottmathiasraw.com

DSCF4438

I would say that this market has one of the best selections of true local produce of any I have seen in Australia.

DSCF4441 DSCF4442

And to make it an even more pleasant morning, there was plenty of easy well organised parking right at the markets
